Ross Heleliuk is one of the most thoughtful and respected voices in cybersecurity today. His newsletter, Venture in Security, has 14,000 subscribers and his recent book Cyber for Builders is considered a must-read for innovators and entrepreneurs in the space.
In his newsletter, Ross does deep-dive takes on cybersecurity industry trends, investing, product and startup building, and more. He’s a product guy—currently the Head of Product at LimaCharlie—and approaches his topics like a product manager, analyzing them from all sides and asking elemental questions that get to the root of the issue at hand. “For me, writing is first and foremost a way to crystallize my own thoughts,” he says. “I start seeing some patterns, some things that are related… and say, ‘OK, what’s here? What is the problem? Let’s analyze it. Let’s understand it.’”
Ross is also active in the cybersecurity community as a startup advisor, speaker, and angel investor. In June, he relocated to Silicon Valley to connect more directly with the local software and security engineers and current and future entrepreneurs creating new solutions in what he considers one of “best places on the planet to build the future of cybersecurity.”
All of which is to say that Ross’s take on what success looks like in the industry is deeply informed from multiple angles. We couldn’t wait to get him on All Aboard to ask where he thinks the industry is headed, where he falls on topics like the evergreen platform vs. point solution debate, and what advice he has for the builders and founders shaping cybersecurity’s future.
