Did you catch the latest episode of the All Aboard Podcast yet? Ian Glazer, founder and president of Weave Identity joins our CEO Alex Bovee to break down two related but distinct security frameworks getting a lot of attention right now—the principle of least privilege (PoLP) and the concept of zero standing privileges (ZSP).
Their conversation was sparked by a lively roundtable discussion on ZSP that both Ian and Alex took part in in May in Las Vegas, hosted by Jim McDonald and Jeff Steadman for a special Identiverse version of their Identity at the Center podcast. As that discussion made clear, there are a lot of conceptual questions and operational challenges around how and when to implement ZSP.
Ian is an expert on the topic and has recently written about practical ways to get started with ZSP for Weave Identity’s blog, so Alex asked him onto the show to dig into the differences and overlap between least privilege and ZSP—and to discuss how companies can use both to guide their identity security strategy.
An important—and hopefully reassuring—takeaway from their conversation is that most companies are just starting their least privilege / zero standing privileges journey. So if you’re in that camp, as Ian says, “Be cool, you’re in the vast majority.” No need to panic. There are practical steps any company, no matter how mature their identity security program, can take to apply both frameworks and improve their overall security.
